We believe that food supplements are a useful and sometimes vital addition to an individual’s diet and may also have a significant part to play in the prevention and cure of many illnesses and diseases.

We stock an extensive range of vegetarian and vegan vitamins, minerals and supplements from some of the leading brands: Solgar, Terra Nova, Lamberts, BioCare and Viridian, to name but a few. We also have a broad selection of herbal remedies including products from the following companies: A. Vogel, Napiers, Pukka and Swiss Herbals.

We have qualified staff available most days to give general advice on diet and nutrition as well as making recommendations for specific health problems. Also available in store is the excellent Healthnotes Online Natural and Complementary Health System – easy-to-use (with a print facility) and incorporating research gathered from scientific studies published in over 550 medical and scientific journals.

Ursula, a member for over 20 years, oversees the running of the medicines’ area – read on for an overview on how the area has developed over the years…

“I began working at On the Eighth Day in 1989 after answering an ad for a vegetarian cook. I had previously run my own rather hippy wholefood shop and had a qualification in catering. After six years in the kitchen, I moved into the shop with a view to developing a natural medicines’ section. This was a new innovation for the business and a great opportunity for my own personal development. I began by attending seminars and studying at home. Due to customer demand for help and support with their health issues, I realised I needed to learn more in order to educate and empower people to take responsibility for their own health. I decided to take a more professional approach and undertook a BSc in Nutritional Medicine in London. Over the next five years I developed a more in-depth knowledge, and now, four years later, I also run a Nutritional Therapy Clinic based at Manchester University’s Well Being Rooms. I am registered with The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT), which is the professional body for Nutritional Therapists.”

The nutrition area is constantly evolving as new research highlights the advantages of using nutritional supplements and herbal medicines as the first port of call for health and healing. We offer professional advice free of charge – take advantage of this unique offer and come in for a chat soon.
